Molecor cooperates in the improvement of vulnerable communities in Madagascar

At Molecor we are firmly committed to generating a positive impact in the development of our activity both on the planet and on people. In order to improve our social performance, we actively participate in different initiatives, including collaboration with NGOs, doing our bit to mitigate social problems in our environment.

For the second time we have collaborated with the Agua Pura Association, an organisation that works in coordination with the local NGO Agua de Coco and that carries out its activity in the South of Madagascar developing the KERE project (famine in Malagasy language), with the purpose of responding to the famine derived from the great drought that the island suffers, and whose main objective is to provide sustainable access to drinking water reinforcing education, health and food production.

On this occasion, Molecor's collaboration has allowed the installation of a photovoltaic solar pump in a 100-metre well built last summer, so that the water supply can now be ensured in the School of Sapphires that the NGO Agua de Coco has in the village of Antsomadiro.

In this village, located in the region of Atsimo-Andrefana, about 1500 people live in extreme poverty and are forced to work in the sapphire mines in order to survive. The School of Sapphires was born with the aim of promoting the education of the children of the community, and to protect the girls of the area who are in a very vulnerable situation in the face of sexual exploitation.

The construction of the well will allow the 750 students of the school to take 5 litres of water a day to share with their families, as there is no water in the rest of the village.  It will also be used to irrigate the school garden for the cultivation of moringa as a nutritional supplement, reinforcing the food that the school offers to the children, all this in order to keep them away from working in the mines.

The water extracted from these wells will improve the health of the population and the development of crops, so that with this collaboration Molecor continues to align its activity with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as these actions contribute to the SDGs:
